BOXGROVE YOUNG CARERS
Who are we?
We are a group of children who are considered to be Young Carers. We may or may not do caring duties but we will have someone in our family who may be unwell or who has a long term condition. For some of us that will be a parent for others we may have a sibling who has for example ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). There are around 30 children in Boxgrove who are Young Carers.
What do we do at our 'Choc n Chill' groups?
We meet once every half-term here at school at lunchtimes where we have the chance to relax and chat whilst doing craft activities, playing games and eating some chocolate! It is an opportunity to meet other children in a similar situation. It is very informal and lots of fun! Once a year we have a trip, usually in the summer term. In the past we have been bowling, donutting, a visit to Pirate Golf and on the Nerf battlefield!
Our Young Carers have also taken part in the ‘Make a Difference’ programme and are currently doing an Arts Award course with sessions led by an outside artist.
Where and when do we meet
We meet in the Library at lunchtimes or occasionally during lesson time once every half term. Each session lasts around 40 minutes. The summer outing is usually in lesson time and takes place in a morning or an afternoon.
Who runs the group?
Nicki Woodward, the Home School Link Worker runs the group. You can contact her for more information either via the school office or email: hslw2@boxgrove.surrey.sch.uk . She would be delighted to tell you more and answer any queries you might have. Nicki is in school every day except Monday.
