Foundation Stage Weekly News

Welcome you to Reception!
This week our focus will be on ‘The Seaside'. We will also be celebrating the Jubilee. Please see the party food sign-up sheet for each class so that the children can enjoy a royal feast on Friday! School dinners will also be provided with a packed lunch bag, but are still of course welcome to share all of Reception's party food.
Listed below are some of the activities that we will be doing within the 6 areas of learning.
PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Circle time
- Stars of the Week (Friday)
- Mystery Box
- Dressing and undressing for PE
- We will attend whole school assembly on Monday and key stage assemblies on Tuesday and Wednesday
- Interacting with others, taking turns and sharing fairly, through activities both inside and outside
COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY
- Looking at a selection of non-fiction and fiction books about the sea
- Writing 'under the sea' adventure stories
- designing and labelling an aquarium
- Practising sentence writing trying to include an adjective
- Remembering capital letters, full stops and finger spaces when writing sentences
- Individual reading
- Daily phonics sessions
- Practising reading and spelling core words
-Speaking and communicating in the role play areas: Bug lab, The Opticians and Car Garage.
Practise writing sentences drawing attention to capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
PROBLEM SOLVING, REASONING AND NUMERACY
- We will begin to try counting in 2s
- Focussing on reading and writing teens numbers
- Problem solving: How many marbles will it take to sink the boat? The children will have to estimate and then check their answer.
- Counting forwards and backwards along a numberline
You can help your child by counting in 2s. You could also take a handful of pennies or small objects and ask your child to estimate how many you have.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD & CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT
This will be a creative week finding out about the Jubilee and making crafts. Every child will design a plate to bring home as a souvenir, they will make a crown, a placemat, a flag and bunting.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
- Please note that swimming times will change slightly on Friday due to the Jubilee celebrations. If you have volunteered to help, then please check the time with your classteacher.
- Know ways of keeping our bodies fit and healthy.
- We will do outdoor PE (weather permitting) Please ensure your child has well fitting, named plimsolls in their PE kits!
- Getting active in our outdoor area using bikes, trikes and scooters.
- Developing fine motor skills through- writing in sand, salt, shaving foam, painting with water on the wall.
- Tracing letters in the sand tray.
- Manipulating play dough to make various models.
General Important Reminders:
Your child will need a named PE kit in school every Monday and Wednesday. They will need: a house t-shirt, a pair of red shorts and plimsolls (named) in a named bag. Your child can hang their PE kit on their peg.
With the increasing warm weather please ensure you have provided your child with a bottle of fresh water to school each day which they can put in the class box. We also ask that you provide your child with a sunhat on sunny days. If you would like your child to be wear sun cream please apply it before they come to school.
In each Reception class we have a 'mystery box' in each class. This is an opportunity for children to bring in an interesting object or photograph from home (no toys). They can then choose members of the class to ask questions about it, to find out what it is!
Please always let us know if your child is going to be collected from school by someone other than yourself. If this is going to be a regular arrangement, please write a letter to your child's class teacher.
